Rae Porter is a fine artist and illustrator based in San Jose, CA. Their work has a dark and moody aesthetic with a touch of whimsy. Rae’s art has a focus on animal portraits in an abstract-realism style, reflecting the duality of life and decay. While They enjoy experimenting with as many mediums as They can get THeir hands on, Rana’s main body of work consists of acrylic and oil paintings.
Artist Note
I spent my childhood engulfed in the countless captivating universes of fantasy novels, and pouring the imaginary worlds of my own mind out into sketchbooks and journals. I spent every second of my spare time frolicking through the woods, talking to the crows, CAREFULLY stepping around faerie rings —searching for hints of magick within the mundane.
Now i Spend my days creating Magic of my own with ink and charcoal and paint. While my art CERTAINLY is not for everyone, i hope my fellow queer, witchy WEIRDOS find comfort in it.
process
My artworkS begin by gathering inspiration, colour palettes, and references. I plan out compositions in procreate before moving onto physical media. I typically create a sketch with graphite or charcoal, followed by an acrylic underpainting, before refining the piece with layers of acrylic and/or oil.
I do not use generative artificial INTELLIGENCE during any part of the CREATIVE PROCESS — or for anything else in my life. Proof of process can be seen on my Social Media accounts.
